Cloudlinux and limitations..

Posted by Wes0805, 01-25-2012, 12:54 AM
From what I know, CloudLinux imposes limitations per LVE, right? You can then setup limits for CPU, Memory and Concurrent processes. Cloudlinux recommends 1 core per LVE. What then is the standard CPU % limit per LVE does most web hosts provide that isn't unfair but also isn't too much? Is 25% of 1-Core enough? Also, does the memory limit also caps PHP memory usage? If I have a PHP memory max limit of about 128mb and a LVE memory limit of 50mb, then a user can't consume more than 50mb limit in his PHP applications? I'm really confused on this one. What is the standard amount of LVE memory limit used for shared hosting? Lastly, does the cpu and memory limits affect MySQL usage? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

It is 25% of all cores or 1 core -- which ever is smaller. And that is what most people use. You are correct about php memory. The default is 1GB virtual memory. Plz, note it is virtual memory, so it doesn't really account for the memory that get shared between processes. The limits don't affect MySQL. If you want to control mysql, use MySQL governor (it comes with CloudLinux).

I've had some good luck with MySQL Governor. You'll need that if your main source of overload is MySQL. It's a separate install and sadly may take weeks to fully tweak properly in my experience, but works wonderfully if database overloads are common on your server.
